Hello all, I’m posting this on behalf of Andrew Sayers:
The invitation emailed to some Forgotten Australians yesterday to the Inside exhibition opening was originally sent on 21 October 2011. We were deeply distressed yesterday to realise that due to a software malfunction, the email was not successfully delivered.
We understand how upsetting it is to receive an invitation the day before the event making it very difficult to make arrangements to attend. For this we most sincerely apologise.
We are very grateful for the generous assistance of Forgotten Australians to the development of the exhibition. The exhibition is an important step in the recognition of your stories as a part of Australia’s history.

I grew up in Burnside where my name was Janette. There is a line in the movie Sunshine and Oranges that sums the experience up at a deep, deep level. It is something like,’There’s a dark hole inside us all that can never be filled. It’s the place where our mother used to be and nothing else can fill it.’ It’s about loneliness that goes with us through life, no matter how well or how badly we were treated. I explored the notion in my books The Long Way Home and A Tuesday Thing (Random House Australia) although I didn’t come up with a line as succinct as the one in the movie. Wish I had.
In research for my latest book just released (Burnished: Burnside Life Stories) the idea comes up again and although it is difficult to articulate, it is there in those stories too.
